Dr. Yakup Krespi completed his medical education at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and studied neurology at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Université Paris VI) in Paris between 1988-1992. From 1992 to 1995, he worked as a neurology chief resident and neurologist at Beaujon Hospital in Clichy, Paris, France. Dr. Krespi joined Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Department of Cerebrovascular Diseases in 1995. Between 1995 and 2005, he worked on the establishment of the Dr. Edip Aktın Stroke Unit in the Department of Cerebrovascular Diseases, Department of Neurology, Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, where he was the director of the Neurosonology Department. In 2005, he established the Stroke Center and Neurological Intensive Care Unit at Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals and served as its director. In the same year, after receiving the title of Associate Professor of Neurology, he worked as a faculty member at Istanbul Bilim University. Dr. Krespi was the director of the Acute Stroke Treatment Unit of T.C Istanbul Bilim University in 2010-2012 and the director of Memorial Comprehensive Stroke Center between 2012-2015.
In 2015, Dr. Yakup Krespi was certified as a Specialist in Vascular Neurology and Interventional Neurology by the Turkish Neurological Association and the Turkish Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases and in 2016 he received the European Minimally Invasive Neurological Treatment "ECMINT" Diploma.
Dr. Krespi is a member of the Turkish Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases, Turkish Neurological Association Cerebrovascular Diseases and Interventional Neurology Scientific Working Groups. He is a member of European Stroke Organization (ESO) and European Society for Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapies (ESMINT), American Stroke Association (ASA), American Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN) and American Neurological Intensive Care Society (NCCS). He is the former chairman of the European Platform for Safe Implementation of Stroke Therapies (SITS) and the Turkish National Coordination Committee of SITS EAST (Eastern European Platform for Safe Implementation of Stroke Therapies). Dr. Krespi was a member of the Advisory Board of the MENA region Angels Initiative Project.
With extensive experience in endovascular (thrombectomy and other) and medical (thrombolytics and other) treatment of acute ischemic stroke, Yakup Krespi is an expert in endovascular treatment of atherosclerotic and other vascular diseases of the neck and brain, founder of MLP Care Stroke Program and former coordinator of Brain Angiography and Stroke Centers (BAVIM), currently serving as the Head of Istinye University Department of Neurology and Director of Istinye University Stroke Center (ISUIM).
Dr. Yakup Krespi is the founder of Istinye University Neuro-Repair program and NEUR-ON CLINIC. His current research focuses on early and intensive motor rehabilitation after acute stroke, neuropharmacological support and cell therapies.
